Portugal has incredibly fresh and reasonably priced food! Eating here is honestly a dream come true. These are some must-try restaurants to add to your travel itinerary when you visit Lisbon. Lisbon

This place has a cool vibe with outdoor and indoor seating perfect for anytime of the day. They are open for breakfast and stay open pretty much all day! We stopped by multiple times for brunch but their lunch and evening menus look great as well. The food was bright and colorful as were their cocktails. They have a children’s play area and lots of different seating available for differently sized parties. They even have vegan dishes. This is a great pick which will make everyone happy :) We didn’t make reservations and were always able to find a great table every time we went.

Another great brunch option with tasty, healthy, and colorful dishes. Although, it has much less space available compared to A.P.F. Restaurant. We enjoyed the meal here but definitely felt a little bit less relaxed and leisurely just due to the smaller space. On the plus side, if you are walking, this is at the bottom of the hill and A.P.F. requires a little bit of a walk up! No reservations so expect a wait if you go at peak hours.

Prado is perfect for a fresh and delicious dinner with biodynamic wines. The vibe is airy greenhouse-chic and the menu features modern farm-to-table local and in-season ingredients. There are many vegetarian friendly dishes although they also serve meat. The butternut squash dish and the mushroom ice-cream are both amazing! We had such a wonderful time that we wanted to go back but they didn’t have any more available reservations on the days we were there. This is definitely one to book in advance!

BAHR is housed on the top floor of the Barrio Alto Hotel and we originally booked this restaurant with an eye towards the terrace view. However, we ended up eating inside with a close-up view of the kitchen and were blown away by the menu. The ingredients are very special and locally sourced and the staff was amazing. We loved every single morsel we ordered (be sure to order several of the “snacks”) and we finished our meal on the terrace with a cheese plate and port wine! We loved it so much we returned for a second night. This is definitely a place to book in advance.

Belcanto is ideal if you are looking for a fancy splurge! The Michelin starred restaurant is housed in a former convent in the heart of Barrio Alto. The tasting menu is fun, inventive, and so delicious. The service is impeccable and the experience is unforgettable! Of course, reservations are required well in advance.

Matiz Pombalina Cocktail Bar, though not a restaurant, is a fun place for a night cap with creative decor and a creative cocktail menu to match!

Another fun way to experience the food scene in Lisbon is to take a wine and food tour like this one!

Food slightly further afield of Lisbon:

  • Cascais: For breakfast or brunch, try House of Wonders in the center of Cascais which is a colorfully decorated vegetarian cafe. Head to Mar do Inferno for some extra fresh seafood right by the Boca do Inferno. This is definitely a place that needs reservations in advance.

  • Sintra: Grab a pastry snack at Piriquita before heading up to see the castles. For dinner on your way back to Lisbon, stop by Incomum which provides a quiet calm atmosphere after a busy day visiting Sintra’s castles.

  • Belém: Stop by Pastéis de Belém for custard pies! The line will be long to sit in the cafe, but you can order pies to go as well.

Bonus! If you happen to also visit Porto, check out Restaurante Casario which is right on the River and has amazing views to pair with delicious food. Be sure to reserve in advance and specifically request a table with a view. We sat outside next to the outer wall and had a gorgeous unobstructed sunset view which turned into a gorgeous nighttime view since the city lights up at night!
